StreamBase Reports Significant Industry Traction & 2005 Milestones as Leader of Real-Time Stream Processing
Company Continues to Set Standard for Proactive, Real-Time Use of Mission- Critical Business Information

BOSTON, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- StreamBase Systems, Inc., provider of the leading software to process, analyze, and act on streaming data in real time, today announced highlights of its major corporate and product achievements for the past twelve months. StreamBase highlights for 2005 include:

* Show-and-Tell Technology Dominance -- StreamBase officially launched the first commercially available stream processing engine at the DEMO conference in February 2005, receiving prominent recognition as a Producer's Circle participant. Immediately following DEMO, Michael Miller, PC Magazine's editor-in-chief singled out StreamBase as, "the most interesting company" at the event. * Product Innovation and Maturation -- StreamBase introduced version 2.0 at the end of the second quarter, built with expanded capabilities for general real-time data needs, along with new functionality to meet the specific requirements of the financial services industry. StreamBase 2.0 was the first technology of its kind to offer pre-configured financial application templates and analytics, Java plug-ins for real-time applications, and interfaces to Microsoft(R) Excel or its auto-generated Java GUI. Additionally, the new release offered the ability to record and playback live data streams, enabling clients to model market assumptions and trading strategies on archived market data at market or accelerated speeds. The 2.0 enhancements empower enterprises to further capitalize on their real-time streaming data by increasing the speed of deployment and significantly collapsing the time to benefit. Deemed such a significant industry turning point for complex event processing, Gartner released an exclusive report, "StreamBase Tackles Complex-Event-Processing Requirements," which outlines how StreamBase 2.0 specifically benefits the financial services industry. "StreamBase is a breakthrough technology that allows organizations to process and analyze huge data volumes and ensures that critical information doesn't drop on the floor," said Dr. Carol Lundquist, Principal IT Consultant at Vision Systems & Technology, Inc. (VSTI), a technology focused engineering and professional services firm. "We're looking forward to helping our clients realize the tremendous business value behind adopting StreamBase as their core method for leveraging streaming data." * Expanded Growth and Distribution -- 2005 was a year of aggressive growth for StreamBase with the company relocating and expanding its North American corporate headquarters in Lexington, MA, just outside of Boston; it also established new offices in New York and Reston, VA. As part of the company's international expansion, StreamBase's European headquarters opened in London during the third quarter to drive growth in key markets across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. As a result, new client engagements with global financial exchanges, hedge funds, and investment firms have fueled consistent growth quarter-over-quarter by 25 percent. * Bolstering of Sales and Management Team -- This year, StreamBase expanded its executive team with two significant hires -- Ivan O'Sullivan and Mark Simons, vice presidents of sales in North America and Europe respectively. A seasoned executive holding more than 20 years of experience, O'Sullivan brings a vast amount of experience in enterprise infrastructure selling strategies, sales program execution, and business development strategies. He has held senior positions at companies like Signiant Inc., a leader in remote data control and Clearswift, the world's leading provider of security software for electronic communications. Simons is an enterprise software leader with a career spanning 20 years. He has worked with some of Europe's most successful software companies, including IONA Technologies PLC, the market leader in distributed object technology, and Kindle Banking Systems, an international banking software supplier. * Product Excellence, Client Success, & Leadership Recognition -- Named by Gartner as a "Cool Company" for 2005, StreamBase also received recognition by Intelligent Enterprise magazine for its implementation at Archipelago (ArcaEx(R)), the world's largest electronic stock exchange. "We focus on two things -- speed and agility," said Steve Rubinow, Archipelago's chief technology officer. "The combination of high performance and the ability to create and modify applications quickly were key factors in selecting StreamBase. In addition, StreamBase's CTO and co-founder, Mike Stonebraker, also received the IEEE John von Neumann Medal for outstanding achievements in computer-related science and technology.

"In 2005 we have secured a firm leadership position by offering the first and only stream processing engine -- a truly disruptive technology that will change the way people interact and leverage real-time business information," said Barry Morris, president and CEO at StreamBase. "As the amount of real- time data volumes continues to increase exponentially, traditional data processing practices will not be able to keep pace. With StreamBase, enterprises are able to optimize the handling and relevance of in-flight data at the right-time so that threats and opportunities can be addressed to maximize competitive advantage."
