In regards to the additional products, we have a skin installed and we have a product that we had custom developed for us that connects to a PostgreSQL database. We've looked at slow PostgreSQL queries causing problems and have not been able to find an issue. We've also tested for the case where the PostgreSQL server is down and have not been able to create an issue. We therefor...

Platform Computing Announces Virtual Computing Cluster Solution
Solution Allows Enterprises to Reduce Cost

New Solution from Platform Leverages VMware Infrastructure to Reduce Complexity and Increase IT Productivity

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- At SC08, Platform Computing today announced the Virtual Computing Cluster, a dynamic resource management solution combining the power of Platform VMO and VMware Infrastructure. This solution allows enterprises to reduce the cost of their compute infrastructure by optimizing application performance and dramatically increasing resource utilization. Virtual Computing Cluster rapidly changes the operating system (OS) running on a compute node, manages how jobs are prioritized and controls which applications are instantiated on a node.

Traditional job scheduling is dependent upon the OS image and application version residing on a given compute node. This limits flexibility to schedule jobs on any available compute node as jobs enter the queue. By adding VMware Infrastructure, Platform's Virtual Computing Cluster solution enables users to run applications with different revision levels and various OS instances simultaneously on the same compute node, and it automatically checkpoints when changes are made to virtual machines which enables increased reliability and priority job queuing.

"VMware Infrastructure combined with Platform VMO provide an ideal platform for Virtual Computing Cluster by severing the ties to specific operating systems and applications to enable dynamic, high-performance workload management," said Dr. Stephen Herrod, Chief Technology Officer, VMware. "This lets customers leverage existing resources to more efficiently run mission-critical applications that have the most demanding performance requirements."

Virtual Computing Cluster removes the dependency on the installed application version and OS image by leveraging the power of VMware virtualization. This solution provides guest image and the dynamic resource management capabilities of Platform VMO and Platform LSF to manage the prioritized scheduling of simultaneous jobs over thousands of compute nodes.

"Customers are way ahead when two leading global technology vendors combine their world class products into a single solution," said Dr. Jingwen Wang, Vice President Products and Co-Founder, Platform Computing. "The combination of Platform VMO with VMware Infrastructure to provide the Virtual Computing Cluster enables users to simplify the management of compute jobs by using a set of pre-defined, certified workload environments for each of their applications."
