Oct. 14, 2008 08:01 AM
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nokia today
announced that the premiere of Nokia Productions, the first user generated
multimedia film, will be held tonight at 8:45 pm PDT at the Nokia Plaza - LA
Live with a simultaneous online premiere at http://www.nokiaproductions.com.
T-Mobile USA, Inc. partnered with Nokia to develop the Nokia Productions film
which was built entirely by everyday people, using mobile devices to generate
and submit original content which was then combined into one artistic
multimedia film created by Director Spike Lee.
Lee will be in attendance for the film premiere and a special live
performance by musician Avril Lavigne. Nokia and T-Mobile invited consumers to
attend the premiere, giving away free tickets to the event at select T-Mobile
retailers.
"Nokia is excited to present the premiere of the world's first social film
production," said Craig Coffey, Vice President of Marketing, Nokia North
America. "It's another way that we continue to connect people through relevant
and innovative experiences. Nokia technology enables anyone to create,
collaborate and share in order to participate in something larger than
themselves which helps to open a world of possibilities for groundbreaking
collaboration in our communities. It helps people to truly be connected
independent of time and place in a way that is very personal to them."
Lee invited the general public to submit their original text, music, video
or images for each of the three acts - birth, life and death - to
http://www.nokiaproductions.com. Over 4,000 pieces of original content were
uploaded and over 350,000 visitors accessed the Nokia Productions site during
the entry period, April to September 2008. Nokia also engaged up-and-coming
filmmakers to contribute to the project through a partnership with the
Disposable Film Festival.
"What drew me to this project was the unique opportunity to do something
that hasn't been done before utilizing technology, the internet, and having
people collaborate on a film," said Director Spike Lee. "The new technology,
you might say, is bringing a democracy to film. Anyone can be a journalist, a
filmmaker, a still photographer. Just pull out your mobile device, record it,
press a button, and it's instantly on the web. So I think it's great that
Nokia had the vision to see where all of this is headed."
Lee guided and directed the creative submissions through video messages
and his blog entries on http://www.nokiaproductions.com. After each act
closed, Nokia selected the "Top 25" submissions, and visitors voted for their
favorite submission creating the "Top 10." Lee then picked the winning
submission from each act to be integrated into the final film. These three
winners will be flown to Los Angeles to participate in the premiere of the
final film.
Nokia will hold a festival on the plaza offering consumers the opportunity
to engage in a variety of Nokia experiences including a one-on-one Guitar
Hero(R) III Mobile by Hands-On Mobile, Inc. competition on the main stage
using the Nokia 5610 XpressMusic, available exclusively at T-Mobile, and a
Nokia N95 photo opportunity. Participants will receive their pictures on the
spot from a convenient Bluetooth printer.
