OTTAWA, Feb. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister for La Francophonie, presented seven Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals to outstanding Canadians who have contributed to improving the lives of Veterans.
"I am honoured to present these worthy individuals with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal," said Minister Blaney. "Through their actions, they have helped Canadians recognize the incredible service, contributions and sacrifices of Canada's Veterans. These deserving recipients are Canadians who care for their communities and who have helped improve the lives of our Veterans all across the country."

A new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. During the year of celebrations, 60,000 deserving Canadians will be recognized.
