Macnica Americas has released the MAI3140, a silicon transceiver capable of transporting up to 8 channels of SDI video over a standard 10Gb Ethernet network. The device comes in transmit and receive versions to allow a complete Ethernet link to be implemented. Forward error correction is added to the transmitted data making the link lossless – important to prevent dropped video frames and video flickering and / or freezing.
The device accepts video in the form of 3G-SDI, HD-SDI or SD-SDI, encapsulates the video streams in UDP/IP + RTP, adds error correction and transmits the traffic through a standard XAUI 10GbE interface. A companion device receives the data, performs any needed error correction and outputs the video streams in the format received.
The device is fully compliant with SMPTE2022 clause 1/2 and 5/6 ensuring compatibility with any third party equipment also using the standard. The amount of forward error correction can be varied by increasing the FEC matrix stored in external memory and a per-channel basis.
Applications for the device include broadcast video transport equipment, video switching in studios, remote surgical applications, surveillance and aggregation of multiple HD camera streams to a single storage device or display.
The MAI3140 is available immediately.
Macnica Americas Inc. (MAI) is a technology company based in San Diego. MAI offers distribution services, design services, IP and ASSP devices for video and wireless applications.
