SAN FRANCISCO, CA and CAMBRIDGE, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/05/13 -- Boundary, a provider of application performance management (APM) software for next-generation applications, and Plexxi, creator of the industry's first affinity-driven networking solution, have entered into a strategic partnership based on a shared vision: to give IT professionals the data and optimally abstracted infrastructure to drive better application performance. As a result of this partnership, IT departments, data center operators and cloud service providers will be better able to optimize networks and support mission-critical application workloads. With Boundary, Plexxi's customers can automate and enhance the configuration of their networks in near real time based on actual application topology and flow analytics.
Plexxi builds networks that are designed to help applications perform better dynamically. The more application-specific information available to the network, the more effectively the right resources can be applied in the right places and at the right time. Boundary allows a Plexxi network to automatically get real-time and always-on application topology, throughput and latency data from applications.
The successful integration of the Boundary and Plexxi technologies was achieved quickly by leveraging APIs that provide a high-level network abstraction, which enables application performance analytics to drive network optimization without becoming bogged down by network configuration minutia. The result proves that the promise of software-defined networks can be achieved today.
"This integration is the result of a shared desire to create systems that leverage generic IT abstractions to drive application performance and network efficiency," said Mat Mathews, co-founder and vice president of product management at Plexxi. "Boundary's real-time discovery of application topology and data flows is an ideal fit with our ability to let application affinities drive network resource deployment via infrastructure independent of IT abstractions. Our customers can leverage this data to proactively configure their network, creating a much more efficient, optimized and easier to manage infrastructure that is based on the needs of the actual applications."
"Agile software development and virtualization mean that application workloads are increasingly in flux, placing new demands on the infrastructure," said Dhruv Gupta, vice president of product management at Boundary. "The integration of Plexxi and Boundary means that IT gets reliable data regarding topology, throughput and latency, so customers can define the network to match the requirements of the applications."
