Hyve Solutions, a division of SYNNEX Corporation (NYSE: SNX) and a leading provider of Open Compute Project (OCP) solutions, today announced that Riot Games, a leading online PC game developer and publisher, selected Hyve Solutions to consult on the adoption and implementation of OCP hardware solutions within its datacenter environment.
After touring Hyve Solutions’ OCP lab and manufacturing facility in Fremont, Calif., discussions between the two companies began. Deeper technical conversations followed as Hyve Solutions worked with Riot Games engineers to tailor an OCP solution that would meet Riot Games’ needs around scalability, reliability, cost efficiency, and environmental responsibility in datacenters.
“Ultimately, our investment in OCP provides an even better player experience for the more than 12 million core gamers who play League of Legends every day," said Ron Williams, Riot Games' Vice President of Operations. “We especially like the vanity-free aspect of OCP–by eliminating unnecessary components, plastic, paint and overhead, we're able to spend more of our technical dollar where it counts–on performance that will translate into an even more responsive and fun in-game environment.”
“This experience shows that OCP solutions can be designed, validated and deployed within a very short time frame–less than three months from discovery to delivery of a fully integrated, plug-and-play production solution,” said Steve Ichinaga, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Hyve Solutions. “Riot Games is the first gaming company we've helped utilize the benefits of OCP. Additionally, we are focusing on delivering custom server and storage solutions that are optimized for Riot Games’ growth trajectory, workload and environment.”
