The Company, a world leader in rugged, high-resolution head mounted display (HMD) and OEM optoelectronic module manufacturing, was acquired from Vuzix Corporation (TSX-V: VZX, OTC BB: VUZI) on June 15, 2012.
The Tac-Eye AR displays are see-through AR-enabled binocular or monocular systems that offer a 40 degree field of view for use in a wide variety of industrial, medical, commercial, and defense applications. Six15’s patented optical see-through system allows users to view the real world while simultaneously viewing relevant computer generated information, graphics and alerts. The Tac-Eye AR specifications deliver a solution far superior to any product available on the market today.
As part of this new offering, Six15 Technologies has partnered with APX Labs to provide the core software solutions that drive the augmented reality environment. APX Labs’ truAR software manages the user experience and interaction with the Tac-Eye, connects the device in real-time to other users and systems, and manages how custom applications run on the Tac-Eye AR. Upcoming software developer kits will allow rapid adoption of the technology by developers everywhere.
“Smart Glasses enable people to get work done better, faster, cheaper and safer. These hands-free real-time mobile applications are incredibly powerful and applicable to almost every enterprise. Just a year ago, none of this was possible, but breakthroughs in the hardware that Six15 is building combined with our software make it real today,” said Brian Ballard, CEO of APX Labs. “We are incredibly excited about the road ahead and working with Six15 to bring Smart Glasses to market.”
“As Six15 Technologies continues to expand into commercial and medical markets, we are focused on delivering solutions immediately. Our new see-through HMD solution leverages technology that is already developed, tested, and proven in the field with our defense customers”, said CEO Rich Ryan.
“To increase our speed to market, we look to those companies who we feel are at the leading edge in their field and seek to partner with them. APX Labs is clearly one such company. This partnership enables us to integrate a superior software solution with our proven display technology in a manner that will deliver immediate solutions to customers in the commercial, medical, and defense sectors,” added Ryan.
