David Johnson, the guy who headed IBM's M&A before he moved to Dell - despite a Big Blue lawsuit - to do the same thing as senior VP of strategy, is leaving.
He is joining private equity house Blackstone as a partner. Blackstone apparently wants to rebuild its high-tech practice.
At Dell he oversaw about 18 acquisitions that cost roughly $13 billion including data center manager Quest Software and storage house Compellent Technologies, diversifying the company away from PCs, a strategy it's expected to continue to pursue.

Johnson's responsibilities will be divided between Chris Kleiman, who will be in charge of corporate development, and Prakash Jothee, who will run the corporate strategy team. Both men will report to CFO Brian Gladden. Johnson reported to Michael Dell.
