LEEDS, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 01/09/13 -- UK mums are typically in control of household finances and Asda research reveals that more and more mums are in charge of booking the family holiday.
A massive 51% of mums are in charge of booking the family holiday, according to the figures. Only 9% share the responsibility with their partner and just 25% of husbands or partners book holidays. (i)
This has dramatically shifted since a generation ago when just 36% of mums took on the main responsibility of booking the family holiday.
Booking a holiday for the whole family and catering to everyone's needs is a difficult task. There can be a lot to consider, such as how family friendly a destination will be and what activities will be on offer when you get there to keep the family entertained. Whilst a growing number of mums are booking holidays - are they getting the best deal?
It's not just holiday's overseas that parents have to contend with. Asda research reveals that the cost of keeping two children entertained during the 8 week summer holiday was a massive GBP 1,440. This included GBP 736 on activities, GBP 528 on food and drink and an extra GBP 176 in childcare costs.
With the cost of living rising, a number of mums will be looking to save money on their holidays and the additional extras such as travel money and travel insurance.
More mums are booking holidays than they were a generation ago however; they are also leading busier and more hectic lifestyles.
These time restraints might not give savvy mums the opportunity to shop around for a better deal on their travel money.
One way to ease the stress of getting travel money is by ordering online or over the phone. Using the Asda Travel Money bureau, customers can then collect the cash in selected stores. Alternatively, next day deliver is available and free home delivery is available on travel money orders of GBP 500 and over. (ii)
