LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Azteca America, through its flagship station Azteca 54 in Los Angeles and Fundacion Azteca America, is pleased to announce the results of another successful Jugueton toy drive in conjunction with Hermes Music. The event attracted more than 70,000 people and included the distribution of over 30,000 toys to needy children in greater Los Angeles.
The festivities included a parade through South Gate with floats featuring Azteca America's talent. After the parade the crowd enjoyed the music of Sonora Santanera, and a special performance by Rafael Mercadante. The attendees were delighted to see the beautiful Cynthia Rodriguez sing and dance to some of her popular hits.
In addition to distributing toys to children present in South Gate Park, toys were donated to organizations such as White Memorial Hospital, Guadalupe Radio, Santa Cop, Eggleston Youth Center, South East Women's Organization (SEWO), UDLA (Union de Discapacitados Latinoamericanos), Saint John's Catholic Church, Angeles Especiales de Lynwood, Proyecto Cuenta Con Un Amigo, and From Heart to Heart "De Corazon a Corazon" Foundation.
The tradition of the Jugueton is a great example of positive traditions from Mexico for the Latino community in Los Angeles. The Jugueton was first launched in Mexico City in 1994 by Mexican entrepreneur Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego, Chairman and founder of Grupo Salinas.
"We have once again exceeded our goal for the Jugueton in Los Angeles, and we look forward to returning next year," said Jorge Garralda.
Azteca America would like to thank event sponsors Hermes Music, McDonalds, Toyota, Metro PCS, Goya, Telcel America, Marinello, Southern California Chevy, Freeway Insurance as well as media partners Exitos 93.9 FM, and Hoy for making this event such a success.
"For the fifth time, we're excited to be bringing holiday cheer to our communities," said Luis J. Echarte, Chairman of Azteca America.
"The Jugueton is a marvelous program that brings out the best in people and allows us to get closer to our viewers and their communities," said Martin Breidsprecher, CEO of Azteca America. "We look forward to continued expansion of the program to other Azteca America stations."
Thanks to additional support from Hermes Music, the Jugueton will donate 3,500 toys in Houston and Dallas. The toys will be distributed during Fiesta Mart Posadas events on Dec. 15 and 17, respectively, as well as to the Faith Family Academy Dallas on Dec. 20.
