Altobridge (www.altobridge.com), a leader in technology that cuts the cost of communicating across wireless networks, has today announced the first commercial deployment of its Data-at-the-Edge™ (DatE™) solution, an intelligent, content delivery architecture that brings content closest to the end user, i.e., at the radio base station level.
The solution is live on a Tier One wireless network in Asia and results show savings of over 40% in mobile broadband backhaul costs, plus a dramatic improvement in Quality of Experience (QoE) and seamless integration into the live network.
Data-at-the-Edge™ enables data passing between an operator’s core network and the radio base station to be identified, managed and optimized at the most granular level. This is achieved through content ‘On-loading’ at the base station, data stream de-duplication, data compression and Network Interface Protocol Optimization, along with other data optimization techniques.
“The Altobridge DatE deployment is showing real evidence that intelligent management and ‘On- loading’ of content at the base station can have the levels of impact on cost reduction and improved QoE that mobile network operators require in order to handle the big data challenge,” said Mike Fitzgerald, Chief Executive, Altobridge. “There is an urgent need for a technology that reduces backhaul costs and improves QoE. Data-at-the-Edge is the solution to these challenges. In addition, it opens-up new revenue generating opportunities for network operators and content providers, through new and innovative business models, such as revenue sharing from pre-positioned rich media content.“
DatE offers service providers a compelling solution to their spiralling ‘big data’ delivery costs while, at the same time, dramatically improving end-user experience. The solution delivers these benefits to all wireless access points: from congested, high-capacity urban base stations, to micro-cell rural deployments where, in the latter case, transmission costs are often commercially prohibitive. In addition, it provides a real solution to the backhaul challenges faced by the accelerating deployment of small cells.
Data-at-the-Edge has been designed to address existing and future requirements of network modernization, administration, operation, maintenance and regulatory control.
DatE can be delivered as a standalone data optimization solution, direct to mobile network operators, or licensed via existing wireless network vendors.
Founded in 2002, Altobridge develops wireless network solutions that reduce network operating costs in delivering mobile voice, mobile broadband and big data services. Central to this lie a series of patented and patent-pending technologies namely; Altobridge Data-at-the-Edge™ (intelligent mobile broadband data optimization and delivery across wireless networks), Local Connectivity™ (local voice switching) and Split Architecture™ (transmission and power optimization), all of which, drive down communications delivery costs for mobile network operators by reducing backhaul and power consumption costs.
Altobridge is headquartered in Ireland and has further bases in; USA, China, Malaysia and Indonesia covering sales, R&D, customer support and manufacturing.
Altobridge solutions are deployed and operational in over 30 countries worldwide.
Altobridge is a privately held company. Shareholders include its employees, Intel Capital, IFC and Enterprise Ireland.
