Openwave Mobility, a global software innovator of value-added services for the mobile telecommunications industry, today announced the deployment of its Mobile Data Charging Solution with an operator in the Americas region. This solution, termed PPI (Promotion and Pricing Innovation) employs advanced policy control and charging (PCC) to enable carriers to develop sophisticated mobile data product offerings and promotions to target subscriber segments. PPI provides the operator with the ability to target a subset of their overall subscriber population with new application-based mobile data charging plans to drive incremental revenue while putting users more in control of when and how they use mobile data.
“The customer’s existing tiered volume services were providing good value in a competitive marketplace, but they were interested in finding ways firstly for attracting new users who didn’t have a data plan, and secondly for offering existing data users the ability to decide whether or not they wanted premium services such as video streaming,” said Fergus Wills, Director of Product Management, Openwave Mobility. “Putting subscribers in control of how they use mobile data was important to them as well. Openwave Mobility’s Mobile Data Charging Solution gave the customer the flexibility that helps redefine the end user relationship providing easy to understand options for users to manage their data spend. By getting more users on data plans and giving them the option of accessing premium services or not, the customer has also created significant incremental revenues.”
“The industry-wide mass move towards tiered pricing has been a driver for operators to look for ways to make premium services such as video or tethering easier to understand for current mobile data users while making data less intimidating and attractive to new users,” said Indranil Chatterjee, Vice President, Products and Marketing, Openwave Mobility. “Openwave Mobility’s Mobile Data Charging Solution, engages with end users in a direct and intuitive manner at point of interest that gives them the benefit of accessing the web and choosing only the premium services they want and at more competitive prices. For the operator, the new range of successful premium data plans provides significant incremental revenue.”
Openwave Mobility’s PPI can be packaged to offer a range of specific data plans including roaming, tethering, video, day pass (aka casual access) and more. PPI is available immediately. Please visit www.owmobility.com or contact sales@owmobility.com for more information.
