Ah, Scandal at Boring Old Best Buy

Imaginations can now run rampant since the company won’t explain what it’s talking about

Seems the reason Best Buy’s CEO Brian Dunn, 51, suddenly up and tendered his resignation Tuesday was because of a board investigation into some unidentified allegations of personal misconduct on his part, not from any altruistic desire to save the world’s foundering largest electronics retailer.

Best Buy waited a few hours until after Dunn’s resignation sunk in before admitting that “Certain issues were brought to the board’s attention regarding Mr. Dunn’s personal conduct, unrelated to the company’s operations or financial controls, and an audit committee investigation was initiated. Prior to the completion of the investigation, Mr. Dunn chose to resign.”

Imaginations can now run rampant since the company won’t explain what it’s talking about.

A couple of weeks ago Dunn, who came up through the blue-collar sales ranks during a 28-year career at the retailer, outlined a desperate turnaround plan to save the company from relentless Internet merchants. He’s been replaced by a board member ahead of a search.

Best Buy initially claimed that “There was mutual agreement that it was time for new leadership to address the challenges that face the company” before releasing its updated statement. Dunn as been CEO since 2009.
