Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Chinese Court Orders Windows Off the Market
Microsoft says it has a license from Zhongyi and will appeal

A court in China, where most software is pirated, has ordered Microsoft to stop selling the Chinese versions of its operating systems because they infringe on fonts owned by a Chinese company called Zhongyi Electronic.

Microsoft says it has a license from Zhongyi and will appeal.

Zhongyi says the license only applies to Windows 95.

The court order, which has yet to take effect - if it ever does - applies to Windows 98, Windows 2000, XP and Windows Server 2003.

Microsoft makes very little money in China because of piracy so even if the injunction maintained it wouldn't lose much.

The decision will likely be scrutinized for a political message.

A couple of years ago the FBI and some Chinese cops busted a Chinese ring responsible for distributing an estimated $2 billion worth of bogus Microsoft software of all stripes and languages worldwide.
