Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Sakhr Software Introduces Spoken Arabic Translator for BlackBerry Smartphones

Sakhr Software today announced it will showcase its Mobile Speech to Speech Arabic Translator for BlackBerry® smartphones at the LandWarNet Conference in Fort Lauderdale, August 18–20, 2009. Sakhr’s Spoken Translator lets English and Arabic speakers communicate in real-time using a BlackBerry smartphone - speaking sentences in either language, viewing the translation, and playing it out loud. Its high accuracy and performance are enabled by Sakhr's technologies for speech recognition, machine translation, and text-to-speech.

“Sakhr’s advanced technology makes live communication possible across the Arabic language barrier," said Steve Skancke, president, Sakhr Software USA. "The Arabic Spoken Translator is particularly relevant to U.S. military and civilian personnel. We have worked to ensure that our government solutions seamlessly operate on BlackBerry smartphones such as the BlackBerry Bold."

The Spoken Translator makes communication between English and Arabic speakers easy:

1. Users freely speak English or Arabic sentences into their BlackBerry smartphone

2. Users see the translation displayed in Arabic and English script

3. Users can hear the translation played out loud

Key to the Translator's success is Sakhr's Arabic natural language processing (NLP) technology, which over two decades has introduced industry firsts like Arabic Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Machine Translation (MT), search and text mining, and now Speech to Speech Translation. More than 100 customers, including the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Department of Justice, use Sakhr Software’s technology to address Arabic language needs.
